Maria McAneny: We want to keep pushing each other after positive start

With two wins from their opening two fixtures, Celtic FC Women will be aiming to continue that 100 per cent start as they prepare to be on their travels once more this weekend. After running out 5-0 winners in their opening home match of the season against Hamilton Accies, the Ghirls now have a short trip to face Partick Thistle at Petershill Park. With different scorers getting their name on the scoresheet, it was a very positive way to kick off their first home match. And that is something the Hoops will be aiming to carry forward, including Maria McAneny, who was one of those scorers, grabbing her first of the campaign. Speaking ahead of Sunday’s trip to Petershill, McAneny reflected on last Sunday, insisting it was a brilliant feeling to be back playing in front of a home Celtic crowd. She said: “It was great to get back playing at home, I think we all missed it with it being the first game back there in a while. “It was a good performance from all of us too. The girls did really well all-round, and we want to take that into Sunday. “Having different scorers, it’s something we’ve really been working on. We’re not relying on one person to score all of our goals ‘So, with that in mind, it just added to it, and it was a really positive afternoon all-round from the girls.’ “It was good being back out at home. As I say, it’s something that we have missed. It’s obviously a bit different playing at home. “We had our first game which was away against Hearts. So, it was good to be back there in front of the fans and we just want to keep building on days like that.”Although the ending to last season was disappointing, the campaign as a whole was a fairly positive one for McAneny. Finishing the season as the Hoops’ second top goalscorer, the youngster enjoyed arguably her best campaign to date. And she was looking to carry that into the 2025/26 season, now getting herself off the mark last Sunday against Hamilton. That is something the midfielder is aiming to keep building on too as she assessed the threats that lie in wait on Sunday against Thistle. “I just want to keep building on the momentum of getting my first goal of the season,” she said. “I want to get more, and more and just keep contributing to the team as much as I can. It’s definitely one of the goals I set for myself. ‘If I can do that again going into the weekend against Partick Thistle, then I’m happy!’ “Partick Thistle are a good team. They are hard to break down, and a very good team. We all know it’s going to be hard. “But we know and are confident that if we can go out and play our game, then hopefully we will be fine. “We’ve had a great start. We want to keep going and pushing each other. Don’t get me wrong, there is always stuff to improve on,. “But hopefully we can bring what we have learned from the past two games into Sunday, and then keep going.”FixturesPartick Thistle Women Vs.
