Scottish Power Women’s Premier League Sunday, January 25, 2026New Douglas Park CELTIC…1 (McAneny 60) MONTROSE…0 Celtic FC Women secured three points in their first home match of 2026, running out 1-0 winners against Montrose. It was Maria McAneny’s second half goal which separated the side’s and handed the Hoops all three points at New Douglas Park. After marking their return to winning ways with a win against Motherwell last weekend, Grant Scott was looking to continue his winning start to life with Celtic. He named two changes to the side from that win, bringing Adelaide Gay and Lisa Robertson into the side from the start. There were also two new additions named in the matchday squad as new signings Poppy Pritchard and Tara O’Hanlon came into the fold. Straight from the off the match looked to be heading one way with the Hoops putting in a dominant display. The Celts were passing the ball well and working it through the thirds as they aimed to create their first opening. That first real chance of the game fell the way of Saoirse Noonan, who was aiming to add to her impressive tally for the season so far. It was a nicely worked move from Celtic which created the opening, as it found it’s way to Morgan Cross in the area. The wingers touch landed in the path of the Ireland internationalist, who tried to head home, but it went just passed the post. That opportunity seemed to kick things into action even more for Celtic, who began to pile the pressure on the Montrose goal. Morgan Cross came close herself to opening the scoring as she tried to force the ball home from a corner. But Cross was unfortunate to find the net, as the goalkeeper clawed the ball off the line as it appeared to be heading goal bound. In the opening 45 minutes, Saoirse Noonan was also unfortunate not to have found a way to goal, seeing an effort blocked off the line by the Montrose backline. It wasn’t to be for the Ghirls in terms of goals in the opening 45, but there was still a lot to build upon after a dominant display. They came close once again at the beginning half, with Noonan firing over the crossbar after another cross into the box caused all sorts of trouble for the away side. The Ghirls were made to wait, but the breakthrough finally came on the hour mark as Maria McAneny scored the opener. On the day which the midfielder was making her 100th appearance for the club, she was the difference maker in front of goal, smashing the ball home from close range from a corner into the box. With the Hoops aiming to add to the scoring, Grant Scott turned to his bench, bringing on both Tara O’Hanlon and Poppy Pritchard for their debuts. It was almost instant impact too, with Pritchard going close to a first goal on her first appearance. The striker on-loan from Manchester City burst free of her marker, breaking through on goal, before seeing an effort saved by the Montrose goalkeeper. The Ghirls couldn’t add to the scoring, but it was a well-deserved three points for the Hoops on their return to action at New Douglas Park. Next up for Celtic is a brief break from league action as they take on Rangers next week in the semi-final of the Sky Sports Cup.FixturesCeltic Women Vs. Montrose Women – Sun, Jan 25th 2026, 13:10
