Paulo Bernardo: We’re all excited and looking forward to Scottish Cup final

This Saturday will mark Paulo Bernardo’s second season at Celtic and first as a permanent member of the Hoops squad. In that short space of time, the midfielder has already lifted four pieces of silverware, with two Scottish Premierships, a Scottish Cup and a League Cup to his name. Collecting those winners medals were all special moments for the Portuguese Under-21 internationalist, and he has his eyes on more silverware this weekend. The 23-year-old has fond memories in the competition, especially after playing his part in the Bhoys’ Scottish Cup triumph at Hampden last season. Bernardo had a key role to play in the winning goal from Adam Idah as the Celts scored late in the game to beat Rangers and take home the trophy. And the midfielder insisted that the entire squad is excited with another cup final on the horizon as he aims to make more special memories in green and white. Speaking at Lennoxtown today, he said: “It’s a big game, and it’s a final so everyone wants to play. “Last season’s cup final was really good but that’s in the past now. ‘This year is completely different. It’s a different opponent with a different style of play.’ “I think we have improved from last season too. So we’re different too. I think it will be a great game for us.’ “At the time, I watched last year’s winning goal back a few times. It was a positive moment for me, and a great memory. “I hope it can be another great memory this year.”Saturday’s match will also offer up the potential opportunity for Bernardo and his team-mates to secure a historic treble. That is one feat which the midfielder has yet to complete as a Celtic player, but one which he hopes to have achieved come Saturday evening. Having started in last weekend’s 1-1 draw against St Mirren, the 23-year-old will be eyeing up another starting spot at Hampden, just as he had done in the League Cup final against Rangers back in December. “A treble is something that I have never experienced,” he said, “so I think that would be amazing, and that is something I want to achieve. “I am still young, and I can achieve that here at this big club. So I will do my best to try and do that this weekend. ‘We don’t really need to talk because as Celtic, we always want to win every trophy that we play in.’ “We always want to win every game, and with that, we can win titles. Everyone wants to win titles, and Celtic is a really big club which does that. “The manager will pick the team as he always does with what he thinks is best for the team. “So I will always do my best to try and get that opportunity. Whoever he picks is the right choice, so we just need to work no matter who is starting or coming off the bench, and we will do our all.”FixturesAberdeen Vs. Celtic – Sat, May 24th 2025, 15:00
