In June 2026, our group of eighteen intrepid cyclists will be embarking upon a monumental challenge, as we cycle 500 miles and climb 40,000 feet across the Alps in 7 days, from Basel to Milan, to raise funds for Celtic FC Foundation. As well as being deep into our training, we are also in the throes of our fundraising, including supporting Celtic FC Foundation’s Paradise Recovery Café, among other initiatives. One of our recent fundraising events was a race night, which took place in the Sports Bar at Celtic Park on Friday, March 27. Around 120 eager participants; cyclists, friends and families gathered in the Sports Bar to enjoy a fun evening betting on the horses and enjoying the beverages on offer, which then loosened the purse strings before the various auctions towards the end of the evening. The auction items varied from weekends away, to Celtic memorabilia, to golf matches, with everything being generously snapped up. The Sports Bar was a fantastic venue for the evening. With a large number of TV screens throughout, it meant that no matter where you were sitting, there were no obstructed views of the races, while the catering was fantastic and the staff were extremely helpful. Our organising group did an excellent job of pulling the evening together, with the support Foundation team who sadly couldn’t be with us as they had their own event over in New York that week. But the efforts made by all ensured that the evening ran extremely smoothly, no mean feat considering the number of prizes that had been gathered and items available for auction. There were six races and right from the starters gun there were shouts of encouragement, shortly followed by groans of disappointment and the odd whoop of delight from each of the tables, as the backers either won or lost on each of the races. Each race was then followed by someone at each table asking why number 7 didn’t win surely next time. The two main aims of the race night were to provide an enjoyable social occasion for people to get together in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere and to raise money for the Paradise Recovery Café and other projects, and it certainly met both of its aims. Everyone had a great time and in the process, £8,620 was raised on the night which will go towards our overall fundraising target of £40,000. Thank you to everyone who played even a small part in this success. By contributing your time, enthusiasm and hard-earned cash you have gone a long way to helping us reach our target. As we cycle over the Alps in June, knowing that you have supported us in our efforts, we will definitely be even more motivated to ensure that we reach the San Siro, as Celtic did in the European Cup Final 1970.
