Saoirse Noonan: I’m over the moon to have received international call-up

With the international break just around the corner, national team squads across the globe are being selected for the upcoming fixtures at the beginning of April. Several Celts are in line for an international call-up, and one player who received the good news that she would be heading away with her country, Ireland, was Saoirse Noonan. The forward has been in fine form since moving to Paradise last summer, and that form in front of goal has caught the eye of new Ireland boss, Carla Ward, who named Noonan in her latest squad. Having last featured for her country in 2023, the striker is thrilled to be part of the squad once more, and expressed her delight in an exclusive interview with Celtic TV. The 25-year-old is excited about the opportunity ahead and believes she will be an even better player on this occasion as she returns to the fold for Ireland. She said: “I’m delighted to have received the call-up. I think it’s every player’s ambition and dream to play for their country. ‘So, I’m absolutely over the moon.’ “I got a text from Carla, just asking for a phone call. So, I obviously got back to her right away and had to wait a while until she was free. “But I was unsure what the outcome of the call might be, so it was just a case of waiting and seeing. So, when they told me, I was absolutely delighted. “It’s been some time now since I was called up. I think my last cap was 2023 against Zambia, before the World Cup. “So, I think as a player and a person I have grown in both aspects. So, I definitely think I have an older head on my shoulders now and I can go in and try grab the opportunity with both hands. “I’m going into camp on good form, with a few goals behind me. So, I’m just going to keep try doing what I do for Celtic. “If I was able to get the goal, that would be the icing on the cake really.”Before the international break though, there is league action for the Ghirls to contend as they take on Glasgow City this Friday evening. Making their return to New Douglas Park for a home outing for the first time since January, Noonan insists the Celtic support will have a big part to play, in what will be another tough match. “I think it’s been really positive with the work we have been doing on the training ground,” she said. “We obviously have a big game coming up on Friday evening against Glasgow City. That is what our focus is solely on. “Every game is a big game now for each team in the split. So, it will be a big game. Hopefully, we can get the result and kick-on from there. “It’s felt like quite some time now since our last home game. So, we can’t wait to get out there and put on a big performance for the fans. ‘They deserve that. So, hopefully we can come away with the three points.’ “Everyone says our fans are like our 12th player. So, we definitely hear them from start to finish, and we need them with us from start to finish. “Glasgow City are a strong side, and every game counts. We will need them from start to finish on Friday, and it’s going to be a great game.”FixturesCeltic Women Vs. Glasgow City Women – Fri, Mar 28th 2025, 19:35
