Saoirse Noonan: It was a privilege to make my 50th Celtic appearance

Having helped Ireland reach League A in the UEFA Nations League earlier this week, Saoirse Noonan rounded off a terrific seven days by hitting a landmark appearance. Taking her place in the starting line-up against Hamilton Accies on Friday evening, the Irish forward took to the field as a Celtic player for the 50th time. It proved to be a successful evening for Noonan and her team-mates, who came away with a 3-0 win at New Douglas Park. Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, the number 20 admitted it has been a busy few days, with much of the squad only returning from international duty on Thursday. The striker got the Ghirls off to the perfect start, with a goal inside five minutes, but believes that could have made more of the chances they created. That being said, it was important to get back to winning ways, and earn all three points on their return to action. She said: “Obviously, there has been a few of us away on international duty, so, it was nice to get back in with the girls this week. “It’s a quicker turnaround than usual, with us having a game on Friday night. But I think it was important that we got out there, got goals, and got the win. ‘It’s important to score early. But I also think that sometimes it can go both ways.’ “You kind of get a bit comfortable in a sense and you maybe don’t have that aggression going forward. “But I do think it is important. We just need to learn that when we do have that goal, we still need to push forward and go for more and score our chances. “That is something that we will definitely take from this game and performance.”The forward has an incredible scoring record in green and white, and not only did she increase her appearance tally, but also her goals. With 38 goals inn 50 appearances, Noonan has been a key player for the Hoops since joining last summer. The 26-year-old insisted it was a privilege to make her 50th appearance, and it was a landmark she wasn’t aware of going into the game. Now, focus turns quickly to cup action next week, with the Ghirls taking on Queen’s Park in the quarter-finals of the Sky Sports Cup. “I didn’t actually know it was my 50th appearance until Elena said it in the changing room,” she explained. “It is a privilege to make one appearance for this club, never mind 50. I’m absolutely delighted. ‘So, hopefully there is another 50 and many more to come.’ “We maybe didn’t have as much time to prepare for this game,” Noonan continued. “So, we’ll be back in again this week, and it will give us extra days to prepare for Queen’s Park now. “We’ve played two days earlier than usual, which is only going to benefit us going into next Sunday.”FixturesHamilton Academical Women Vs.
