After finishing last season as top scorer for the Ghirls, Sunday’s victory over Hamilton Accies seen Saoirse Noonan get off the mark in the 2025/26 campaign. Running out 5-0 winners over Hamilton Accies at the weekend, the Hoops took home all three points in their opening home match of the season. And it proved to be a good afternoon in front of goal for several members of Elena Sadiku’s squad, with five different scorers on the day. The Ireland international kicked things off, with the first strike before the half hour mark, glancing home a header into the far corner. Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Noonan reflected on the performance as a whole, admitting there were still aspects the squad will look to improve upon. She said: “I think it was a bit of a frustrating start, not like we started last week. But I think as the game panned out, we grew into it. “We scored some really good team goals and definitely still have a bit to work on. ‘But we come away with five goals, and five different goal scorers which is great.’ “It was our first time this season playing against a team with a really, really low block. I think it was just about trying to grow into the game. “We didn’t panic and had to be patient, and we managed to find that first goal. Even then, you still want more goals. “Hamilton defended their own and defended the box well. We just had to find those little passes in the final third. “I think we could definitely be more clinical, even myself. But you take that and move forward.”With over 30 goals to her name last campaign, the striker will be hoping to follow that up in her second season with a similar tally. Marking her first start of the campaign with a goal is certainly the right way to go about it, and the forward admitted she was pleased to get off the mark. With the squad still getting used to one another, Noonan believes there is much to be positive about with the Ghirls’ performances so far. And she insists they can certainly take those positives into the coming weeks, starting with a trip to Petershill Park next Sunday to face Partick Thistle. “It’s always nice to get your first one and get off the mark and running,” she said. “So, hopefully I can get plenty more. “When we play with pace, we are a very good team. But it’s about trying to do that, again and again.’ “We want to try and be consistent with it. It’s still early on and we’re all trying to get to know each other. “It’s Aislin’s first start today. So, big credit to her as well. We’ve got new players coming in, and we just need to learn how to get the best out of each other.” ‘Every performance is huge now for us. We’ve got another big game now against Partick Thistle next weekend.’ “We’ll have good sessions to build into that. I think it today (Sunday) shows that we will need everyone. “We make a few changes again today, and it’ll be the same next week.” MORE ON THE MATCH Celts down Hamilton with five-star performance – Match Report Elena Sadiku: We were really happy with our attacking play against Hamilton –
