Saoirse Noonan: Scoring 50 goals for Celtic is something I’m proud of

It was another special landmark in front of goal for Saoirse Noonan on Sunday afternoon, who netted another hat-trick. Those goals took the Irish forward over the 50-goal mark, which she has reached in an impressive 62 games. It was a strong afternoon for Noonan and her team-mates, who took home all three points in their final league outing before the split. Returning to the side, the Celtic No.20 played her part in the 5-3 victory, which took the Hoops above the Edinburgh side in the league. Speaking to Celtic TV after the match, Noonan reflected on the result and performance, praising the squad for their team display. Having defeated Hearts for the second time in just over a week, the striker insisted the Ghirls showed the hunger required to take home the victory. She said: “From start to finish, it was a brilliant team performance firstly. Obviously as a striker, it’s always brilliant to get on the scoresheet. “My first two came from set plays, and the girls’ deliveries were quality. “But it was a really good performance from the team, from minute one until the very end. So, it was really good. “Hearts are a top side, and we knew they were probably going to change things up slightly from last week. ‘We have so much depth in our squad now, so we knew we were able to make small adjustments.’ “But I think just the hunger we showed last week, especially in extra-time, we knew we needed to bring that in today. “Even up until the last minute, they were still pushing. We knew they would keep coming back. “We spoke about that at half time because we know how quickly things can change in football. “It was really important that we went out and played our game and stuck to our game plan, which we did.”During her time with the club, Noonan has produced some important goals. That was once again the case on Sunday afternoon. The Ireland internationalist struck a first-half brace, before adding to her tally in the second, to secure all three points. With the striker now getting set to join up with her international squad, when the Ghirls return it will be straight into post-split action. Reflecting on scoring her 50th goal for Celtic, Noonan insisted it was a proud moment, whilst she was also delighted to play her part in an important win. “50 goals for a club like Celtic is something you can only dream of as a child,” she said. “I still remember my first goal like it was yesterday. ‘I enjoy all of them! 50 is obviously a number I am proud of.’ “But it’s a credit to all the girls. They put me in the positions to get that goal. So, it was a really nice feeling. “We knew these points were going to be huge. We are taking it one game at a time. “Hearts are obviously in the top six. So, going into that split, we wanted to have that advantage of winning over them. “So, it is huge for us. There are a few players now we are going on international duty. “When we get back, we’ll have the fixtures for the split We’ll just take it day-by-day and week-by-week.”FixturesCeltic Women Vs.
