As Celtic prepare for what could be a title-clinching clash away to Dundee United this weekend, Liam Scales is fully focused on finishing the league campaign on a high. The Hoops already have the League Cup trophy in the bag, and there’s a Scottish Cup final to look forward to next month. Now the aim is to secure a fourth consecutive league title, and a positive result at Tannadice on Saturday will do just that. Scales has been impressed with the mentality of the team in the past few weeks after a disappointing defeat against St Johnstone, and speaking exclusively to Celtic TV, he said: “We had a little setback and bounced back really well in the last couple of weeks. ‘We know a point will do it for us but we’re not going there to get a point.’ “We want to win every game between now and the end of the season to bring us into the cup final. We obviously want to go to Dundee United and win the game and it would be brilliant to win the league there.” The Irish defender made a timely return to the starting XI recently after a short spell out through injury, and he’s grateful for the support he received during his recovery. “It was tough.” he admitted. “I had to get an operation so I knew I was going to be out for a good few weeks, but the physios are brilliant. “I actually recovered quicker than we thought I would. It’s great to be back in. I just kept myself fit and ready, and thankfully, I got the chance to come back in last week.”With strong competition for places throughout the squad, Scales also knows exactly what’s required to stay in the team. “Everyone wants to be starting games,” he said. “It’s where everyone wants to be and I know I need to stay on top of my game to stay in, and that’s obviously the plan between now and the end of the season.” Some of that competition has come from Auston Trusty, with the defensive pair pushing each other for the left-sided centre-back spot throughout the campaign. “I’ve played with Auston – he’s brilliant.” said Scales. “I played with him more at the start of the season and I enjoyed playing alongside him. He’s a good player. “It’s always going to be the case here. Whoever comes in, there’s always strong competition. ‘We do have four or five good players for every position and that’s a positive thing – it keeps everyone on top of their game.’ Tannadice has played host to some iconic title wins in Celtic history, and Scales is hoping to write his own chapter this weekend. “It would be brilliant to do it up in Tannadice again,” he said. It’s a good stadium, and e always bring good fans away there. It’ll be great to do it again. “We did it recently in 2022 – I wasn’t in the squad then – but hopefully this time around I’ll get to experience it as a proper title win.” Looking further ahead, there’s a chance to end the season with even more silverware as the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen awaits – a fixture that carries personal significance for Scales, who spent a season on loan at Pittodrie during Celtic’s last Treble-winning campaign. “I really needed that year in Aberdeen and it was a shame I missed a Treble season,” he reflected, “but I don’t think at that stage I would’ve featured much and the year away in Aberdeen was brilliant. “It’s going to be the same game for us. We prepare the exact same way. We go into the game trying to win, but it will be special for everyone.” SUBSCRIBE TO CELTIC TVUpcoming FixturesDundee United Vs. Celtic – Sun, May 5th 2025, 11:00
