The Celtic Ghirls are now in recovery mode following last night’s (Wednesday’s) 5-1 win over Motherwell and ahead of Sunday’s trip north to play Aberdeen. The goals came from five different scorers, but the pick of the bunch was the goal that put the Celts 2-0 ahead in the 24th minute from Lucy Ashworth-Clifford as she cut in from the left and sent a sweet curling shot in with her weaker left foot. She had laughingly joked in an interview that it was meant as a pass for Jenny Smith, but later admitted to Celtic TV what we all knew, she was going for goal all along. The scorer said of the game: “I enjoyed it, the girls did well and there were moments when Motherwell did really well. “They scored a goal, but we came back, kept fighting and got the result in the end. ‘Elena said after the game that the squad is so strong that no matter who comes they end up creating the result that we end up getting.’ “So it doesn’t matter who starts or who comes on, it’s all one team and we end up getting the results. “So it’s amazing to have such depth and good girls coming on “It’s been a lot of games in pre-season, a lot of games already. I think someone said in the next 18 days we’ve got five games so that’s why we need a squad with this much depth. “And we’ve got it so we should be fine.”The Head Coach herself was delighted with the outcome on a night when the wind and rain battered the pitch and the players Elena Sadiku said: “I think it was a really good performance. “We were very attacking and tried to score many goals and, obviously we scored five and Motherwell were really trying to keep the numbers down. “They had a good effort, but we scored three goals before half-time and we tried to score more, I think we played good football.” The Swede made five changes from Sunday’s vital 1-0 win over Glasgow City, and one of those changes, Saoirse Noonan, scored the opener as early as the third minute. Sadiku added: “It was a great goal. Saoirse was in the right spot and doing what she is good at. It was a good start with an early goal and we kept trying. ‘I think I’m going to say it all the time now, but yeh, we have a great squad, and making the subs, you can see the impact when they come in.’ “I think the intensity rises when they come in with a lot of energy and good quality. “That’s something that I as a coach can be really happy about. “Now we’ve got the job done, we recover and get back to focus on the next game.”Unique AngleFixturesCeltic Women Vs.
