Celtic Football Club was delighted to welcome members of the Scottish Homeless World Cup team to Lennoxtown today (Monday). The squad will travel to Seoul in South Korea for the World Cup tournament this Thursday, September 19, and before they jetted off they had the opportunity today to meet with Celtic’s Korean player Hyunjun Yang who took part in a Question and Answer session with the Scotland players. They also spent time with Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers who, on behalf of the club sent the squad away on their fantastic adventure with the best wishes of everyone at Celtic. The tournament is the first Homeless World Cup to be hosted in Asia and will be staged at the Hanyang University in Seoul from September 28 to September 28. A total of 56 teams representing 42 nations means that over 450 players will take part in the tournament, with Street Soccer Scotland at the forefront in organising the structure of football for the homeless in our own country. This will be the 19th Homeless World Cup and many will well remember the two tournament hosted in Scotland – in Edinburgh in in 2005 when Italy beat Poland 9-3 in the final, and, more recently in Glasgow in 2016 when Mexico beat Brazil 6-1. Scotland, of course, have won the Homeless World Cup twice – in 207 when they beat Poland 9-3 in Copenhagen, and 2011 when Mexico were defeated 4-3 in Paris. Here’s hoping the lads can bring the trophy back for a third time. Homeless World Cup Street Soccer Scotland
