SWPL Sunday, September 21, 2025New Douglas Park CELTIC…1 (Ross 10 HIBERNIAN…1 (McGovern 72) Celtic FC Women were held to a 1-1 draw at home against Hibernian, after the visitors scored a second half leveller to take home a share of the spoils. Opening the scoring early on in the match through Natalie Ross, the Hoops put themselves in a good position. However, an equaliser on 72 minutes from Kathleen McGoven seen both teams take a point a piece in Hamilton. Having bounced back to winning ways with a strong victory over Aberdeen last weekend, the Ghirls returned home. After opening her Celtic account last Sunday, there was not only a home debut but also a first start in the Hoops for Hannah Luke. Following a resilient performance on the road against the Dons, Elena Sadiku’s side would have been aiming to build upon that. And the made the ideal start to proceedings at New Douglas Park, opening the scoring inside the opening 10 minutes of the match. The midfielder was on hand to bullet the ball home inside the six-yard box, turning home Maria McAneny’s looping delivery. For points throughout the game, the Celts had to withstand some pressure, with the current SWPL champions trying to get back into the game. Despite that in the first half, the Ghirls didn’t face much in the way of shots on their goal, with Rodgers only having a few comfortable saves to make. There wasn’t too much goal action to shout home about for either side in the first 45 minutes. But it was arguably Celtic who had the best of those chances. Late in the first half, just moments between one another, both Morgan Cross and Natalie Ross had shots from distance, but neither could trouble the keeper. A delivery from Emma Lawton on the right was also met at the back post by McAneny, but her looping header went over the crossbar. Going in at the break, it was Celtic who would hold the advantage, with the Hoops number five grabbing her third goal of the campaign. Heading into the second half, the Celt started brightly, with Cross firing a dangerous looking ball across the box, which was well defended by the away side. The visitors continued to grow into the match, showing their threat by striking the crossbar just beyond the hour mark, giving the Hoops a warning sign. Celtic did have the chance however to add to their tally through substitute Aislin Streicek, who seen an effort well saved by the goalkeeper. Despite doing well for the majority of the game to withstand the pressure, Hibs did find their way back into the match on 72 minutes. Kathleen McGovern showcased good persistence to fight off her marker, before tucking the ball into the far bottom corner. Both teams were looking to score that all-important second, which would almost guarantee the three points. Maria McAneny came closest for Celtic, seeing an effort caught by the Hibs shot-stopper, whilst the away side also came close to a goal of their own, before a triple save from Lisa Rodgers denied them the winner. Ultimately, it ended all square in Hamilton with both teams taking home a point from what was a competitive 90 minutes. The Hoops return to action next Sunday, making the trip to Montrose.FixturesCeltic Women Vs. Hibernian Women – Sun, Sep 21st 2025, 16:10
