After the Celts’ 4-1 demolition of Chelsea on Saturday evening, defender Stephen Welsh said the performance was the highlight of the tour. The Scottish champions rounded off their tour of the USA with a resounding victory over Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea side at the University of Notre Dame, and Welsh feels that the Hoops fully merited their result. “I think the performance today was unbelievable from the boys,” he said. “We really built on the first two games. They were great, but the performance of the tour was today.“At times we played them off the pitch, we were so much more organised. Defensively, the pressing, the aggression, we were much better than Chelsea. “We deserved the win. We probably could have scored another couple of goals. “We were disappointed to concede a goal with the penalty at the end, but all in all we’re delighted with the performance today.”Brendan Rodgers’ side have won all three matches during their time in the States, defeating DC United, Manchester City and Chelsea in a successful pre-season tour. Alongside those matches, the Bhoys have also been putting in the work on the training pitch, and Welsh says that he and his teammates are now looking ahead to next weekend’s league opener.“The training in general has been at a really high level,” he said. “It’s been tough because of the heat.“The standard of the boys coming back in has been exceptional. “Hopefully we can kick on to next Sunday now and put in another good performance.”
