Celtic TV’s If You Know Your History has returned for a second series, this time focusing on the foundation of Celtic – recounting Brother Walfrid’s life and the creation of Celtic Football Club at St Mary’s on November 6, 1887. Just like the first series, which explored the life of Jimmy McGrory, Jock Stein’s nine-in-a-row and the Centenary Season, Matthew Campbell journeys through the annals of Celtic history, visiting key locations and speaking to experts on the stories that have been etched into the club’s history books. This time, Matthew visits Sligo and the ruins of the Kerins family home, where Brother Walfrid (born Andrew Kerins) was raised in the remote Ballymote area. Matthew also discusses Brother Walfrid’s motivations for founding a football club with Michael Connolly, author of Walfrid: A Life of Faith, Community and Football, at St Mary’s in the Calton – the birthplace of Celtic. Celtic TV also visits the Paradise Pit Stop during the Celtic FC Foundation Christmas Appeal to see how Walfrid’s legacy continues to this day, supporting those in need in the East End of Glasgow. The first episode of the new series is available to watch now, free on Celtic TV.
