Adelaide Gay: We fought hard to earn a point against Glasgow City

Celtic FC Women picked up a hard-earned point against Glasgow City on Wednesday night with a 1-1 draw at Petershill despite being reduced to 10 players just before half-time. The Hoops showed a stern resilience from the first whistle to make sure they didn’t come out of the game empty-handed, with goalkeeper Adelaide Gay saving from the spot to keep the scoreline level early in the game. Speaking to Celtic TV after the game, the American keeper reflected on the positives that the Ghirls can take from battling to secure a draw with the odds stacked against them. “I think, given how the game went, it’s a positive thing that we’ve taken a point.” Gay said, “especially with the feeling that comes with playing with a player down for more than half of the game.  “Getting something out of the game was really important for us, especially with the way results have gone, has put us in to a good headspace going forward. “Grant Scott spoke before the game and he said there would be mistakes and things would happen but we need to keep fighting. ‘There was more than we thought there would be to fight through, but we definitely did that, so that’s a positive.’ “That was the third penalty in three games that we’ve faced, so when they gave that I couldn’t believe it was happening again! “So it felt really good to save it and to hold it and not have a rebound.”Wednesday night’s match is the first in a double-header between Celtic and Glasgow City, with the sides set to meet this Saturday in the Women’s Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden (KO: 12.30pm). Ahead of that huge game, Adelaide Gay says that her side can be positive after their hard-fought point, but she expects an entirely different challenge come Saturday afternoon. She added: “There are a lot of positives that we can look at for ourselves, but I think Saturday is going to be a completely different game. “We’ll start with 11 players in the next game, it’ll be a different pitch and maybe different line-ups so it’s a fresh, new game.”FixturesGlasgow City Women Vs.
