Battling Hoops take well-deserved point against Glasgow City

ScottishPower Women’s Premier LeagueWednesday, April 29, 2026Petershill Park, Glasgow GLASGOW CITY…1(Motlhalo 22) CELTIC…1(Craig 37pen) Celtic produced a performance full of character and determination to take a point in the first of a double-header against Glasgow City. The Hoops had to come from behind, levelling through a Chloe Craig penalty before the same player was sent off just before half-time. But the 10 players remained resolute throughout the second half to take a well-deserved point ahead of a Scottish Cup semi-final clash at Hampden this Saturday. Grant Scott’s side started the game on the front foot but the first clear chance came for Glasgow City in the 14th minute when the home side won a penalty. It was Lisa Forrest who was fouled inside the area, and she stepped up to take the spot-kick which was superbly saved by Celtic keeper, Adelaide Gay. Just three minutes later, the Hoops came close to scoring when Hannah Luke’s effort hit the woodwork, while Saoirse Noonan saw an effort well-saved by the Glasgow City keeper. However, with 22 minutes on the clock the home side took the lead through a Linda Motlhalo shot from the edge of the area. Celtic immediately looked to respond and Noonan had a chance but her header was just wide of the target. However, the equaliser came on 37 minutes when the Hoops were awarded a penalty after Tara O’Hanlon’s cross was handled inside the area. Chloe Craig stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to make it 1-1. However, if that was a high point for the experienced defender, just five minutes later when she was sent off for a foul on a City attacker after being adjudged as the last player. Glasgow City looked to capitalise on their numerical advantage and tested Adelaide Gay early in the second-half, with the Celtic keeper producing a good save on 53 minutes while, at the other end Saoirse Noonan had a shot blocked after being set up by Tara O’Hanlon. And O’Hanlon was called into action at the other end just before the hour mark to clear a City effort off the line and keep the scoreline at 1-1. While the home city enjoyed the bulk attacking play, the Celtic defence and their goalkeeper stood firm, while Grant Scott’s side were still causing problems for the City backline on the break. And, in the end, both sides had to settle for a share of the spoils, with the teams set to meet again at Hampden this Saturday (KO: 12.30pm) for a winner-takes-all Scottish Cup semi-finalFixturesGlasgow City Women Vs.
