Liam Scales agrees new Celtic contract

Celtic are delighted to announce that Liam Scales has signed a new contract which will see him remain at the club until the summer of 2030, with the club having an option to extend for a further year. The Irish defender, who joined the club in 2021, is approaching 150 appearances for the Hoops and has been a pivotal player in Celtic’s successes over recent years. His performances on both the domestic and European scenes for Celtic have also earned Scales recognition on the international stage, with the defender now a regular first-team player for the Republic of Ireland. Speaking after putting pen to paper on a new deal with Celtic, the Irishman expressed his delight at committing his future to the Hoops. “I’m delighted to commit for another few years here.” Scales said. “It’s an amazing club and I’ve grown to love it. I feel a real part of it now. “I really enjoy myself here, I love my life here in Scotland and it was good for all parties to get this done. ‘I’m hoping that these next years will be my best.’ “I feel like I’ve got the game experience now, I’ve played nearly 150 games for the club and I’ve played for Ireland. “It’s all coming together nicely and I just want to continue on the right trajectory over these next few years.” On Scales’ contract extension, Celtic manager Martin O’Neill said: “I’m delighted for him and delighted for the club because I think Liam’s been outstanding, and since I’ve been here, he’s been absolutely terrific. “We are a better team when he’s in and he’s also got the ability to play left-back, and I think it’s good news for the club because he’s always there. “I like him a lot and I think he’s been a major player for us this season.”
